Practice Honour

Mary maneuvered her shopping trolley to join the queue in the grocery store. In front of her was a mother and her little daughter of 5 or 6 years. The Mother started to load the shopping onto the conveyor belt and the little girl reach in to the trolley to help. She grabbed a carton of eggs and as she lifted them out, they slipped from her grasp and fell to the floor. Eggs oozed from the broken carton.

'What did you do that for? Her Mother barked. 'Can you not do anything right? I knew I should have just left you at home. Just stand there and do not touch anything else.'

The little girl looked at the mess she has made on the floor with the broken eggs. Mary felt her pain. If that was how her Mother treated her in public, what was it like at home. She reached over to the lady on the cash register and asked for some paper towels.

'Don't worry, it was an accident,' Mary said to the hurt little girl, 'I saw you trying to help. That was kind of you.'

The Mother muttered something under her breath, but the little girl's face lit up.

'Could I help you?' She shyly asked Mary. 'Of course,' Mary said as she showed her how to pick up the slippery eggs, and the little girl smiled again.

Mary could only hope that as the Mother and daughter left the shops that day, that the little girl would not always be treated like that.

Imagine for a second how the world would be transformed if every man, woman and child showed honour to others.

To honour is to to hold in high respect, to revere, to show a courteous regard for, to treat someone else like they are a treasured possession, even if they do not feel like it.

Look around your world today and make a conscious decision that you are going to honour and respect those around you, it will make life so much easier!
